Competitive Gymnastics

The competitive sector is for gymnasts who want to master complex skills and routines, who are passionate about the sport and are also committed to rigorous training. Members of the competition group train intensely. The competitive athletes participate in 3-4 local, regional, and provincial competitions a year, showcasing their talent and hard work. Competing in gymnastics is about pushing boundaries, overcoming challenges, and striving for personal bests. Our competition group embodies the spirit of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship.

Gymnasts are selected to join the team by coaches’ recommendation or through auditions in the fall (September only).

To participate in auditions, please send us an e-mail at flexartcompetitive@yahoo.com including your child’s full name, birthdate, and previous gymnastics experience (level if applicable). We will proceed to e-mail you with all relevant information for tryouts.

Défi

A pre-competitive gymnastics group that is designed for young athletes who are preparing to enter the competitive world. These gymnasts are typically working on building foundational skills, strength, flexibility, and discipline necessary for higher-level competition. Training in this group focuses on learning proper technique, improving body awareness, and gaining confidence on all four apparatuses: floor, vault, beam, and bars. Though these gymnasts are not yet competing, the pre-competitive environment gives them a taste of what is expected at higher levels, while keeping training fun and engaging. Athletes in Defi train for five hours a week; this allows for steady progress without overwhelming young athletes, making it a balanced approach to preparing them for the competitive stage.

Regional

A regional competitive gymnastics group is for gymnasts who are actively participating in competitions at a regional level. These athletes have progressed beyond basic skills and are now refining their abilities to perform more advanced routines across the different apparatuses. In the Regional group, gymnasts typically train between 5 and 10 hours a week. The amount of training is tailored to the gymnast's level, age, and goals, and is spread out over multiple days to ensure sufficient rest and recovery between sessions. Training at this level emphasizes not only skill mastery but also stamina, precision, and the ability to perform consistently under pressure. Athletes at this level are expected to be disciplined and committed, with a clear focus on improving their performance. This level of training provides a structured environment that supports their growth both as athletes and as individuals.

Provincial

A provincial competitive gymnastics group is designed for gymnasts who compete at a high level within their province. These athletes are highly dedicated and focused on mastering complex skills, perfecting routines, and excelling in competitions. The intensity of this training prepares them not only for provincial championships but also as a steppingstone toward national or international competition. The gymnasts in this group typically train for 12 or more hours a week. This level of commitment requires not only physical strength and skill but also mental resilience, as the training demands are high. Gymnasts at this level are usually highly motivated and have set ambitious goals for their athletic careers.
